Because it's all about me

The Japanese version of Amazonia was published this very morning. I note that the smiley, swoosh-like part of the logo, which the American jacket inverted into an ironic frown, has now been turned on its side. Back at Amazon that sort of cultural tweak was called localization. Makoto Hoshi did a meticulous job on the translation--at least to judge from his diligent queries--and he's already promised to come to NYC and buy me a beer if the book hits the Japanese bestseller list. I countered with an offer to buy him a beer in Tokyo. As of 11:11 AM, nobody is yet obliged to buy anything.
